It’s blazing hot around here, making it less likely that I’m getting near my oven. When summer is at its hottest I love having cold sweet treat options on hand. Enter my avocado milkshake.

Until I started traveling in Asia in my early twenties, I had always considered avocados to be an ingredient that belonged in savory dishes. In Asia I was exposed to several variations on an avocado milkshake…avocado in a dessert? I couldn’t resist trying one and the taste blew my mind. That first sip totally shifted my avocado universe. In recent years the avocado has made a sweeter shift here in the US and become a popular choice in a healthier dairy-free takes on things like chocolate pudding and fruit smoothies. But today I’m throwing the doors open wide and celebrating the avocado in all its glory, unadorned and unmasked by things like chocolate or blueberries.

This milkshake is a simple affair, only five ingredients, and one of those ingredients is ice. The milk in this milkshake is a combination of sweetened condensed milk, which provides the sweetness, and whole milk. I added a generous squeeze of lime juice to help make the flavor of the avocado pop and to prevent the avocado from oxidizing (turning brown). The only piece of equipment needed is a blender.
